BüroSarıgedik, Gülsün Karamustafa'nın yeni kişisel "Resim Sergisi"ni 17 Eylül Perşembe akşamı açıyor. Sergi, sanatçının 1978'de Taksim Sanat Galerisi'nde açtığı kişisel sergiyle görünür olan resim pratiğini bugüne bağlıyor ve kendisi yaklaşık çeyrek yüzyıllık bir aranın ardından yine sadece resimleriyle karşımıza çıkıyor.
Kişisel ve tarihsel anlatıları iç içe geçiren Karamustafa, yarım yüzyılı aşan üretiminde göç ve yerinden edilme, toplumsal cinsiyet, kimlik ve kültürel bellek meselelerini modern Türkiye'nin ulus inşası ve modernleşme deneyimi içinden ele alır; kendini bu tarihin bir "kronografı" olarak tanımlar. 1980'lerin sonundan itibaren yerleştirme, video ve tekstile açılan öncü bir pratik geliştirdi. Resim ise bu üretimin hiç terk edilmeyen düşünsel omurgası olarak kaldı. Sergi, sanatçının tuval üzerine akrilik resimlerini, desenlerini ve kâğıt üzerine karışık teknik çalışmalarını bir araya getiriyor.
Karamustafa, 60. Venedik Bienali'nde Türkiye Pavyonu'nun sanatçısıydı (2024); Roswitha Haftmann Ödülü (2021) ve Prince Claus Ödülü (2014) sahibidir. Eserleri Tate Modern, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Centre Pompidou, MUMOK ve Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago başta olmak üzere pek çok önemli müzenin kalıcı koleksiyonunda yer almaktadır.

BüroSarıgedik opens Painting Exhibition, a new solo exhibition by Gülsün Karamustafa, on the evening of Thursday, 17 September. The exhibition connects the artist's painting practice first made visible in her 1978 solo show at Taksim Sanat Galerisi, Istanbul to the present day: after an interval of nearly a quarter of a century, Karamustafa once again comes before her audience with paintings alone.
Interweaving personal and historical narratives, Karamustafa has, across a practice spanning more than half a century, addressed questions of migration and displacement, gender, identity, and cultural memory through the lens of modern Türkiye's experience of nation-building and modernization; she describes herself as a "chronographer" of this history. From the late 1980s onward, she developed a pioneering practice that opened out into installation, video, and textile. Painting, however, remained the intellectual backbone of this body of work never relinquished. The exhibition brings together the artist's acrylic paintings on canvas, her drawings, and mixed-media works on paper.
Karamustafa was the artist of the Pavilion of Türkiye at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), and is the recipient of the Roswitha Haftmann Prize (2021) and the Prince Claus Award (2014). Her works are held in the permanent collections of Tate Modern, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Centre Pompidou, mumok, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among many other leading institutions.
